The Importance of Owning Power Supply

With power adapters, it is possible to use an electrical device like a laptop in a foreign country whose power sockets may not be suitable for your device. Depending on the purpose and function, power adapters can be relatively inexpensive or very expensive. A classical example is laptop adapters. They are designed for used by international travelers who may carry with laptop traveling to Europe or Asia. They not only offer a wide range of plugs for work with different types of outlets, but also regulate alternating current into direct current.

These units can greatly reduce the travel expenses,

because it is not necessary to pay expensive conversions during the stay, or rent equipment for the journey. When you travel frequently, make sure you have one universal power adapter kit so that you do not need to worry about looking for an adapter or converter. It is relatively easy to buy today. Many include a lot of prongs that match the sockets used in most countries worldwide, including USA, UK, and most of Europe and Asia. If you can not find a local type of prong, it is very possible to be able to find one locally. With all types of power adapters, it is important to ensure that these units are tested and meet minimum safety standards. Before plugging your electrical devices, make sure you use the correct prong so that you will not do any harm to your device. This is particularly important when the adapter is designed to be used with expensive equipment like a laptop.

Laptop Battery Reconditioning

It is common to a laptop computer battery to have a factory-preset on how many times it can be charged. Every time the laptop computer is being charged, it will continuously drain minute portions of its charged capability. It is recommended to have a your laptop battery reconditioned in the middle of its lifespan to gain additional charging power.

Follow the instructions below to have an effective laptop battery reconditioning.

1. Remove from the laptop computer the AC adapter, and let it run solely on battery power. Use the laptop computer and drain the battery completely until the laptop turns off by itself.

2. Let the laptop remain off in 10 to 15 minutes, and do not plug the AC adapter at this time.

3. Turn the laptop on using the power button. Do not try to connect to AC power yet. Let the laptop turn off by itself once more, making sure that the laptop battery is discharged fully.

4. With the battery still attached with the laptop, plug the laptop back to AC power. Charge the battery fully as indicated on the display. After that, charge it again for another thirty minutes.

5. By repeating the process for several times or possibly for days in which the laptop battery reconditioning will be fully attained.

6. It is advisable to download software for laptop battery monitoring application in order to oversee the charging, as well as the discharging cycle of the laptop battery. It will also keep tracking the laptop battery’s overall performance.

Additional Information and Warnings:

• It is advisable to perform the battery reconditioning at night. This is to make the process continuous and free from interruptions.
• When the battery reconditioning has been attained, always discharge the battery fully every time before charging again. The reconditioning process should be repeated every 2 to 4 months.
• Keep the battery in a dry and cool place when it is not in use. Major laptop computer producers advise to keep the battery cool at about sixty degrees Fahrenheit in order to discourage discharging prematurely.
• Do not ever try placing the laptop battery in the freezer or refrigerator. It will damage the battery badly.
• Avoid dropping the laptop computer battery.
• Avoid exposing the battery under extreme temperatures.
• Never leave the laptop outside in cold weather.
• Do not leave the laptop inside a car that’s parked on a hot day. The increase in temperature can cause premature discharge of the batteries.
• Always use power from electricity to keep the battery charged.
• Do not use the laptop computer for a long period of time.
• In some cases, laptops computer can be run using two batteries. When it is not possible, inquire with the producer of the laptop for the availability of battery with a high capacity. An external battery can be utilized for an extended period of laptop computer operations.

Taking care of laptop batteries is helpful and it will be ready in top condition every time it will be used.

Power Supply doesn’t mean AC Adapter

A power supply is a device that supplies electrical energy to one or more electric loads. The term is most commonly applied to devices that convert one form of electrical energy to another, though it may also refer to devices that convert another form of energy (e.g., mechanical, chemical, solar) to electrical energy. A regulated power supply is one that controls the output voltage or current to a specific value; the controlled value is held nearly constant despite variations in either load current or the voltage supplied by the power supply’s energy source.

Every power supply must obtain the energy it supplies to its load, as well as any energy it consumes while performing that task, from an energy source. Depending on its design, a power supply may obtain energy from:

  • Electrical energy transmission systems. Common examples of this include power supplies that convert AC line voltage to DC voltage.
  • Energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cells.
  • Electromechanical systems such as generators and alternators.
  • Solar power.

A power supply may be implemented as a discrete, stand-alone device or as an integral device that is hardwired to its load. In the latter case, for example, low voltage DC power supplies are commonly integrated with their loads in devices such as computers and household electronics.

Constraints that commonly affect power supplies include:

  • The amount of voltage and current they can supply.
  • How long they can supply energy without needing some kind of refueling or recharging (applies to power supplies that employ portable energy sources).
  • How stable their output voltage or current is under varying load conditions.
  • Whether they provide continuous or pulsed energy.

The AC adapter, AC/DC adapter or AC/DC converter is a type of power supply – typically those that are embedded in an over-sized AC plug. Other names include plug pack, plug-in adapter, adapter block, domestic mains adapter, or power adapter. Informal terms include wall wart, wall cube and power brick. These are typically packaged with electrical devices that do not contain their own power supply. By separating the power supply from the main body of the electronic device, it can be made more compact and lighter. Any heat dissipated by the power supply is outside the device, so it can run cooler. Using standardized commodity external power supplies can simplify regulatory approval for sale in various countries; only the power supply itself needs to be tested for national standards compliance, instead of a whole device.

Buying Guide to Bluetooth Headsets

The right Bluetooth headset might seem simple, but it actually comes with a challenge that’s unique to all headphones, and, well, anything that needs to be placed in your ear: It’s tough (and not completely sanitary) to try products out before plunking down the cash for them. But a major component of a headset’s success depends on how it feels and fits—and that varies widely from person to person, and even from ear to ear. Other factors including sound quality, design and style, battery life, and extra features are important, too. PC Magazine Publishes New Buying Guide to Bluetooth HeadsetsPicking. There seem to be two main styles of Bluetooth headsets.  Some are held in place by a loop around the ear – there are generally more comfortable, but may be less secure.  Others are held in place by being physically jammed into your ear. These are generally less comfortable (!) but may sometimes be more secure.  We’ve come up with nine points you should consider when shopping for your next Bluetooth headset:

1.  Noise Cancellation
Aliph’s original Jawbone introduced noise-cancellation technology to the masses. Aliph’s fifth-generation Jawbone Era has the most advanced algorithms yet, while the Motorola Endeavor HX1 adds an effective Stealth mode that you toggle on and off for noisy environments. Some headsets, like the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and BlueAnt Q2, also do a fine job at blocking out noise and can be more comfortable to wear than the Jawbone.

2. Call Quality
If call quality is the most important consideration for you, you’ll want to check out the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and the Editors’ Choice Aliph Jawbone Era, though several others are almost as good now. Call quality varies widely among products, but we’re pleased to report that even smaller, fashion-conscious models like that Jawbone Era and the BlueAnt Q2 finally sound as good as their larger counterparts, despite having tiny microphones and speakers.

3. Battery Life
A guiding principle: If you don’t want to charge, go large. Some of the bulkier, less fashionable headsets like the Motorola HX1 can last eight hours on a single charge; the Voyager Pro+ (no svelte elf itself) lasts about six and a half hours. But watch out! There are some real turkeys out there such as Jabra’s Stone line, which can’t even eke out two hours of talk time, so keep an eye on our test results. The Sound ID 400 manages to last over six hours despite its slim body, a true achievement.

4. Comfort
This is a very personal choice. Some models such as the Plantronics Savor M1100 feature a rubber earbud that sits partially inside your ear. While some may find this uncomfortable, I think it creates a secure fit without being too tight. (I find both of these models very comfortable.) Others sit on the edge of your ear, while the Motorola Oasis and Plantronics Voyager Pro rely more heavily on their requisite ear hooks to balance their weight.

5. Style
A certain portion of the population thinks that all Bluetooth headsets look silly—a view that’s reinforced whenever they see people walking down the street wearing one, even when not in use. If you want the best-looking device you can find, the sleek, hatpin-like Plantronics Savor and the tiny but cute Motorola H17txt score points for their fetching designs. The slight but attractive Aliph Jawbone Icon is another head turner, particularly due to its array of chic color and texture choices. Still, limiting headset use to your desk or the car will keep disapproving stares to a minimum.

6. Range
There’s not much variation in range of operation. Most headsets are limited to a theoretical range of 33 feet, which is a limitation of Bluetooth technology. Typically, you can go a good 10 to 15 feet before static starts to creep in, though a few headsets can make it to 20 feet and around a wall or two before this happens.

7. Mono vs. Stereo Sound
Most Bluetooth headsets provide mono sound and fit in a single ear. But if you want to listen to stereo music wirelessly—say, for your workout—a few dual-ear models, like the MotoROKR S9-HD and the more expensive Nokia BH-905, are worth considering. (Avoid Motorola’s S10, which has serious sound-quality problems.) Die-hard audiophiles should stick with wired earphones for the best sound quality (though the BH-905 also offers a good-sounding stereo wired mode). But when it comes to pure convenience, it’s tough to beat a stereo Bluetooth set, especially since these models let you listen to your tunes and take calls from your Bluetooth-enabled phone.

8. Bonus Features
Depending on the device you choose, you can get one (or more) nifty extras. The Jawbone Era leads the pack with its genuine app platform, which turns the headset into a fully programmable gadget. The Motorola H17txt works with a special Android app that reads your text messages to you through your headset. The Novero TheFirstOne comes with every charger, power connector, and ear tip you’ll ever need. Many headsets, like the Plantronics Voyager Pro+, let you pair up to two devices simultaneously; that means you can switch between PC-based VoIP calls and cell-phone calls all day without pairing and re-pairing each time. The BlueAnt Q2 lets you speak commands and gives you voice-based tutorials.

9. Price
The sweet spot for a sweet Bluetooth headset is $99 list, and you can often find those models discounted to $70 or $80 if you shop around. But you can still find a decent headset for under $50. Typically you’ll have to buy something a little bit clunkier, with noise cancellation that isn’t up to par with the leaders. But you can’t deny the value of the Plantronics Explorer 395 and Samsung Modus HM3500, both of which offer solid quality for prices well under $50.

Take a General Survey @ Laptop Components

Laptop components may technically include many items, like the monitor, the keyboard, processor and other devices, installed on the laptop. But usually, “laptop part” refers to one of the following: hard drive, which can be upgraded, memory (RAM), the CD or DVD drive, the laptop battery and the power adapters. This is because only these parts can actually be upgraded. Of all the laptop parts and the accessories available, the ones that are bought the most, are laptop batteries, power chargers and adapters. There are other external devices also, for which the demand may be high, such as USB keyboards, USB Mouse, pen drives etc.

The battery might be the first when speaking of an internal part, the part that exhausts the fastest. The monitor, the hard drive, the motherboard, the DVD or CD drive, the processor etc, all have very long life span. The laptop battery has only about 2 to 4 years life span generally. And hence, this laptop part is the one that needs replacement, more often. The laptop battery can be exhausted even sooner, if proper care is not taken, and the need for a new laptop battery may arise sooner. Of course, if the battery is old and you think that it has served its purpose, then a new laptop battery is definitely a necessity. It is better to spend some money on a new part (a laptop battery), than to fret over the battery, which is not giving a good backup.

On the other hand, external parts, the most common accessories are the keyboard, the mouse and the power adapter. The need for an external keyboard arises, because the laptop keyboard may not be very comfortable to use. Typing from a laptop keyboard is most uncomfortable. An external keyboard will usually take care of this problem. The mouse is a necessity for more or less the same reason. Using the touchpad on the laptop may take a little getting used to and also, the mouse is always a better option, than a laptop touchpad.

Finally, the power supply: this laptop part is the one external device that may need replacement, almost as often as you replace the battery. The power adapter, if spoiled, leaves you with no other option to recharge your laptop battery (unless you have another power adapter, or you have access to another power adapter). This makes the power adapter, the most important external part, or accessory for your laptop. Laptop parts and accessories are very easily available in many stores, and even on the internet, where a single shop may have all the laptop parts that you may need!

Optical “Mice” Don’t Fear Cats!

The Cat and the Mice is a fable attributed to Aesop of which there are several variants. Sometimes a weasel is the predator; the prey can also be rats and chickens. But as to me, I’ve never saw a mouse eat a mice. Actually, As information tech progresses, mice has it’s own meaning in the other way. It is the high tech product which is the pronoun of Optical Mouse.

Modern surface-independent optical mice work by using an optoelectronic sensor to take successive images of the surface on which the mouse operates. As computing power grew cheaper, it became possible to embed more powerful special-purpose image-processing chips in the mouse itself. This advance enabled the mouse to detect relative motion on a wide variety of surfaces, translating the movement of the mouse into the movement of the cursor and eliminating the need for a special mouse-pad.

It appears that the venerable wheeled mouse is in danger of extinction. The now-preferred device for pointing and clicking is the optical mouse. In that time, mice still “fear” cat because it can’t runing without the “wheel”. With the wheel, mice can’t cast off cat’s tracing. But the mordern tech help out the mice to have it’s new way to face to the cat. Optical mouse is the new tech in the past decade. It renew and speed up the development of the business and the usage of the computer.

Optical mice have several benefits over wheeled mice:

  • No moving parts means less wear and a lower chance of failure.
  • There’s no way for dirt to get inside the mouse and interfere with the tracking sensors.
  • Increased tracking resolution means smoother response.
  • They don’t require a special surface, such as a mouse pad.
  •

Developed by Agilent Technologies and introduced to the world in late 1999, the optical mouse actually uses a tiny camera to take 1,500 pictures every second. Able to work on almost any surface, the mouse has a small, red light-emitting diode (LED) that bounces light off that surface onto a complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor. The CMOS sensor sends each image to a digital signal processor (DSP) for analysis. The DSP, operating at 18 MIPS (million instructions per second), is able to detect patterns in the images and see how those patterns have moved since the previous image. Based on the change in patterns over a sequence of images, the DSP determines how far the mouse has moved and sends the corresponding coordinates to the computer. The computer moves the cursor on the screen based on the coordinates received from the mouse. This happens hundreds of times each second, making the cursor appear to move very smoothly.

Gesus! It is absolutely no need to fear the little kitty. The high tech optical mouse is like a robot or the tank. Cat might fear the “mice”. In the years ahead, cat might need to use the mice to help to finish it’s meal.

The Differences between 2-prong & 3-prong outlet of Laptop AC Adapter

The ground is a frame ground for safety and actually doesn’t connect to any electrical circuit but rather connected to the frame of the appliance to ensure the frame doesn’t get electrified to dangerous levels. The two prongs is a hot and a neutral return which essentially is a ground of sorts. If the 2 prong outlet came with the computer as with many laptops or AC Adapter then it’s fine. And we offered the big brand AC Adapter for laptop replacement or backup : http://www.feevoo.com/Laptop-AC-Adapters/

Any problems with the prong? You still gotta confused? OK, Here it’s the detail of the differences between 2-prong and 3-prong.

Just begin with what the holes in an outlet do. When you take a look at a normal 120-volt outlet in the United States, there are two vertical slots and then a round hole centered below them. The left slot is slightly larger than the right. The left slot is called “neutral,” the right slot is called “hot” and the hole below them is called “ground.” The prongs on a plug fit into these slots in the outlet.

If you have the idea about how is the battery work, you know that electricity must flow in a circuit. In a battery, electricity flows from one terminal of the battery to the other. In a house outlet, power flows from hot to neutral. The appliance you plug into an outlet completes the circuit from the hot slot to the neutral slot, and electricity flows through the appliance to run a motor, heat some coils or whatever. Let’s say you plug a light bulb into the outlet. The power will flow from the hot prong, through the filament and back to the neutral prong, creating light in the process.

What if you were to plug a thick strand of wire straight from the hot slot to the neutral slot of an outlet? Unlike an appliance, which limits the amount of electricity that can flow to 60 watts (for a light bulb) or 500 watts (for a toaster), the wire would let an incredible amount of electricity flow through it. Back in the fuse box, the fuse or circuit breaker for the outlet would detect this huge surge and it would cut off the flow of electricity. The fuse prevents the wires in the wall or the outlet itself from overheating and starting a fire.

Here is the 3-prong AC Adapter @ Feevoo : Sony VGP-AC19V15 AC Adapter
    http://www.feevoo.com/Sony-Adapter/Sony-VGP-AC19V15-AC-Adapter-19.5V-5.13A.html

Ground slot and the neutral slot of an outlet are identical. That is, if you go back to the fuse box, you will find that the neutral and ground wires from all of the outlets go to the same place. They all connect to ground (see How Power Distribution Grids Work for details on grounding). Since they both go to the same place, why do you need both?

Take a look around your apartment, what you will find is that just about every appliance with a metal case has a three-prong outlet. This may also include some things, like your computer, that have a metal-encased power supply inside even if the device itself comes in a plastic case. The idea behind grounding is to protect the people who use metal-encased appliances from electric shock. The casing is connected directly to the ground prong.

In a words, a wire comes loose inside an ungrounded metal case, and the loose wire touches the metal case. If the loose wire is hot, then the metal case is now hot, and anyone who touches it will get a potentially fatal shock. With the case grounded, the electricity from the hot wire flows straight to ground, and this trips the fuse in the fuse box. Now the appliance won’t work, but it won’t kill you either.

What happens if you cut off the ground prong or use a cheater plug so you can plug a three-prong appliance into a two-prong outlet? Nothing really — the appliance will still operate. What you have done, however, is disable an important safety feature that protects you from electric shock if a wire comes loose.

So, the point is the safety feature is in the 3-prong. But, it doesn’t mean 2-prong is dangerous. It’s just depend on what electrical product are you using in your house. Take it easy, not a big deal, but you should know that because it could be a big deal! Any question or more information @ http://www.feevoo.com
